Christopher D. Owens is Chief Executive Officer of the Veterum Sapientia Institute. He is a doctoral candidate in sacred theology at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, where his research focuses on themes in ecclesiological debates of the twentieth century, with particular attention to the work of Charles Journet. Christopher holds a Licentiate of Sacred Theology (S.T.L.) from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (the Angelicum), with a concentration in Thomistic Studies.
His research interests include the preambles of faith, sacramental theology, the virtues, and Christian perfection. His Master’s thesis examined the liturgy as a theological source, and his Licentiate thesis explored the doctrine of predestination.
In addition to his academic work, Christopher serves on the editorial board of Philosophical News, the journal of the European Society for Moral Philosophy, and is Vice-President of the Albertus Magnus Center for Scholastic Studies, based in Norcia, Italy. He is also an oblate of the Monastery of St. Benedict in Monte.
Deeply committed to service and leadership beyond academia, Christopher is Chairman of the Board of the North Carolina Classical Charter Schools organization and Scoutmaster of Troop 56 in Belmont, NC. He and his wife, Anna—also a lifelong Catholic educator—are the parents of six children.
